This Smart Home is a Miracle for Injured Veterans

The death of his older brother inspired U.S. Army Sgt. Franz Walkup and his two younger brothers to join the military. Franz was deployed to Iraq for Operation New Dawn in 2010, and in September 2012, he sustained five gunshot wounds in Afghanistan.

Franz spent 12 days in a coma. He underwent almost 80 surgeries and was forced to amputate his right leg and lived many years in pain. He learned to use a prosthetic leg, but there were many issues managing his day to day life at home with the injuries he sustained while in service.

Franz received a R.I.S.E. Smart Home from The Gary Sinise Foundation in hopes of giving the veteran back some of his independence. Franz appeared on the show to reunite with Gary Sinise and give a tour of his new home.
