Martina McBride’s Martina Margarita
Country music superstar Martina McBride shares the recipe for her signature cocktail: The Martina Margarita! Cheers!
Makes enough for 10 to 12 cocktails
For the tequila-lime floaters (optional):
6 limes, halved
reposado or anejo tequila
For the margarita base:
2¼ cups reposado or anejo tequila
2¼ cups fresh squeezed lime juice (from about 24 limes)
1½ cups simple syrup or agave nectar
For the cocktails:
Lime wedges, for salting glasses and serving
1 cup coarse salt
1. Make the tequila-lime floaters: Hollow out each lime half and thinly slice the uncut end of each half so that the lime half sit flat. Set each half in a 12-cup muffin tin and fill hollowed out limes with tequila. Transfer muffin tin to freezer; freeze until limes are frozen and tequila is ice cold.
2. Make the margarita base: Pour tequila into a large pitcher. Add lime juice and simple syrup or agave nectar; stir to combine. Transfer to refrigerator and chill at least 4 hours.
3. Make the cocktails: Place salt in a shallow dish. Run a lime wedges around the rim of each glass to moisten. Dip moistened glass rim into salt to coat. Fill glasses with ice and set aside.
4. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and top with margarita base. Add 3 dashes of bitters for each serving in shaker; cover and shake to combine; strain into prepared glasses. Garnish with lime wedges and add a tequila-lime floater, if desired; serve. Repeat process for each cocktail as desired.
